We are committed to the wise use of the natural resources in Northern Michigan. We do this in several important ways:
1. First, we harvest sustainably. That means stands of timber are not depleted nor degraded when we do a harvest. Our staff forester explains our approach to harvesting to the landowner at the time we bid on a timber harvest. Since we harvest our logs within a fifty-mile radius of Petoskey, Michigan, we have a great interest in the health and sustainability of woodlots in this area. And as we harvest, our crew does it in such a way as to leave the softest possible footprint when we're done. 2. In addition, we use all parts of the logs we harvest. The bulk of the material is made into lumber, which is sold green or dried and processed into flooring or dimensional lumber. But even the sawdust from the milling and the "waste" from the debarking process are made available for use with livestock (sawdust for their stalls) and for landscaping (high quality mulch). If you have any questions about wood in general, or how we work in particular, feel free to contact us (888-629-5120 or 231-3474575), or at sales@nmhardwoods.com. We love wood, and it shows.
