Birch Details Birch has a light reddish brown heartwood, tinged with red and a creamy pale yellow sapwood. Birch has a straight, closed grain, uniform in texture. Some boards may have a curly or wavy grain and may vary greatly in grain and color. Birch is 2% softer and 10% less dimensionally stable than Northern red oak. Birch makes a beautiful floor but can be difficult to stain. Birch has traditionally been used for furniture, doors, boxes, and woodenware. |
